Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis show the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for details.
A high-ranking representative said the incident left him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
